"We will need to find a safe place to camp for the night." Amos agreed, a feeling of unease creeping over him, his own horses were still restless. He briefly wondered if there were any real Obals roaming the area that the horses could detect. Or perhaps scouts from the raiders?...
Amos scanned the horizon and surrounding areas, the darkness making it all the harder to see. He noted another rocky outcrop further on, a few withered trees struggling to make a living. He recognised the place as a source of water and noted it in his mind as a potential camping place for the night. Other rocky outcrops sported plants also, scattered across the desert but water was always surer where Kingsbane grew.
Turning back to the problem at hand, Amos looked at the terrified little child closely and then glanced at Roze, a questioning expression on his face. One child rescued, and yet so many more needing help. And yet what would they do with them as they liberated them? And once the raiders realised that they had lost a slave helping the others would become so much more difficult.

How about we move our good characters to their campsite and give them a night off, then work out how to help the kids (perhaps some NPC's need to arrive) in the morning?

Works for me.

Roze had felt her heart leap with sudden hope when Daniel appeared with the curly-headed child, but they were quickly crushed. It wasn't Yasmin. Not that she wasn't glad that the child had been rescued, but with all her heart she had wanted her to be her sister.
Still, this little girl was about the same age and clearly terrified. She needed someone.
"Come here," Roze crouched down and held out a hand to the girl. Tentatively the child came forward and took it, wariness and fear still clear in her face. "Do you recognise me?"
The girl nodded. "You're the fortune teller."
"That's right. My name's Roze. You're Alia's child, aren't you?"
She nodded again. "I'm Lalita."
"Lalita. That's a beautiful name." The girl smiled, beginning to trust her. "We're going to look after you, alright? It's all going to be okay."
"You'll take me home?"
Roze hesitated, then nodded. "Yes. We'll take you home."
Lalita smiled widely, happy, and threw her arms around Roze's neck. The older girl gently stroked her hair and looked up at Amost and Daniel.
"You know the desert better than me. Where should we go?"

"Away from the rocks," Daniel replied immediately, then stopped in surprise. He hadn't meant to say that. But the sense of danger was too strong for him to ignore, and he hadn't survived until by disobeying his feelings. He glanced at the horses, then to Amos. "I really feel we should get away from these rocks; soon."

"I agree." Amos nodded. He took up the reins in one hand, and in the other reached for Roze's hand, intending to lead them over the sands to a safer place.
"Come, there's a place we can hole up for the night, there is water." he said.

Roze nodded, and turned to Lalita. "We're going to go and find somewhere to sleep tonight. You'll be safe with us, okay?"
The little girl nodded, her big dark eyes watching Roze trustingly. The older girl smiled gently and lifted the child onto her hip, just as she had Yasmin so many times, then took Amos' proffered hand and got to her feet.
"Which way?"

Amos indicated slowly, pointing into the desert, where a dark shape on the horizon was only visible because of the lack of stars. He and Daniel took the lead, both men gazing around warily for signs of danger or trouble.
Amos would be glad once they were under cover. Roze especially needed to rest and they needed to come up with strategy to keep themselves safe, and to somehow free the other children.

Mik eased his stallion to a halt in the edge of shadow at the end of the tumble of stones. He waved carefully to Vrej, keeping the movement blocked by his body so the two men wouldn't take notice. As his friend came to a stop beside him, he turned his head carefully and mouthed, "Tribesman." He kept his grin small and tight so his teeth wouldn't give him away in the darkness. This promised to be a good chase. Tribesmen were dangerous foes... and this one knew where Trista was and had a companion. There was a girl too, and she would likely slow down the two men, and the child would be a burden as well. That made it just about the right odds against a tribesman from the desert.
The small group was moving away across the sands toward a dark, formless shape that blocked out the stars and stood where the moonlight left it shadowed. Mik knew that place. There was a tiny rain-well there. Just enough water for a few people and their horses. They could either follow and risk detection or take advantage of their relatively fresh horses and swing around to reach the water ahead of the tribesman's group. It would be a better chance of capturing them.
He glanced across at Vrej again and tipped his head back toward the rocks as he edged his stallion backwards and deeper under cover.
