Juska got up and sauntered over toward the temple. The soldiers outside watched him stroll past them, their faces suspicious but not nearly enough to defy orders and move from that spot. He entered the temple to see the Captain being addressed by one of the Priestesses.
"We are searching." he answered in a thick accent, "Searching for, er..." the Captain searched for a word in a language he was not used to using. "Wise Lady." he decided. "Wise lady with knows of healing." he continued.
Juska looked around, the large area was packed with wounded. And this idiot was looking for a healer? He suspected a rat. He leaned casually against a pillar and watched with all the air of casual indifference. If there was going to be trouble here, Juska was going to end it. This was no place for fighting; the people needed the temple.

Ellone raised her eyebrows. "We have many wise women with healing knowledge here if that's what you need," she indicated the various priestesses. Nene paused from where she was tending to the injured woman and frowned, confused. Couldn't the man see all the injured?
"Unless," Ellone continued, eyes slightly narrowed, "You are looking for someone in particular?"

"Yes." The Captain answered, "My Commander, very ill. He need urgent help and send me to this place."
He interpreted Ellone's expression correctly. "We search for," The Captain had obviously been practising the name in a language he was unfamiliar with, "Nena. We need healer Nena Olorvan."

"Nena?" Ellone repeated. She glanced briefly at Nene, whose name sounded closest to what the soldier was trying to say. However, not knowing her protegee's last name, she couldn't be sure that was who the he meant. Turning back to the Captain with a frown, she informed him, "There is no one here named Nena."

Juska watched the captain's eyes narrow and his face become resolute.
"Nena Olorvan. She is here. You will bring her to me."

At the Captain's words Ellone's own face became stern, she folded her arms stubbornly across her ample chest and stuck her chin out firmly.
"There is no one here named Nena Olorvan."

Tanyo shifted his stance a little, now ready for instant motion and attack. If this Captain was any kind of a fighter, he should detect it and back off. If not...well, that was of no matter either way. It was not his quarrel, but it was clear that any healers were more needed in this town than elsewhere.
He had followed the priestess' glance toward one of the other priestesses, and could only hope the Captain had not done the same. If he had, then he might now back down, then follow the woman later on his own.

Kecek looked up as he heard the words, "There is no one here named Nena Olorvan."
Hmm... Kecek thought.
He stood, facing the soldier searching for 'Nena.'
Perhaps he had meant Nene. Either way, Kecek felt no need to get involved at the moment. Kecek could use his magic to fool the soldier into leaving. An illusion of everyone running would do the trick.

The Captain suddenly froze. His mouth gaped a little and then he started as though somebody had sneaked up on him. Not seeming to notice anyone in the great room he suddenly turned and ran out of the temple.
Outside, he could be heard shouting orders to his men in an unknown language.
Juska stared after him in amazement. As he looked around at the other stunned faces of those who had been watching he noticed they too looked very surprised. Except for one.

Kecek laughed to himself and turned his attention back to Ellone, who seemed just as surprised by his leaving as everyone else.

Tanyojitan let himself relax as the man left, as much as any elf could relax in a human town, and took another look around. Most of the wounded that he could help, had been helped. He should be on his way, but...
He shook his head. By Sky and Mountain, he was no longer sure of where his path should take him.

Juska looked around at the surprised faces. He threw a question to the air, to all of them or none.
"Now what?"

Ellone glanced over at him, and grinned. It wasn't exactly menacing, but it wasn't the comfortable, reassuring smile of a healer.
"Now we get back to work!" she answered loudly.
There was a moment's pause before the hall filled once more with the buzzing of the priestesses and volunteers going about their healing duty. Ellone glanced once more uneasily at Nene, before returning to her own patient.

As everyone got back to work, Kecek rose to his feat. He didn't see anyone who wasn't beyond his healing abilities. Sure, he could make them think they weren't in pain, or even make them think they weren't even there, but it wouldn't save their lives, it would merely make their moments a bit more peaceful.
He realized that that would probably be better for some of them. Those who were infected too greatly to be healed, or simply those who hadn't arrived soon enough. He shook his head, rekindling his mind's clarity, or at least as much as he could.
Kecek approached Ellone, "Excuse me. You may have noticed. I...influenced that soldier's thoughts. He saw the crowds running in fear, and believed that something was chasing them. This is why he ran."
He paused, "I don't want to give up hope for these people, but some of their injuries are clearly beyond repair. I would never do this with good cause, but I'm just wondering if perhaps I might be able to ease their suffering with an illusion in their final moments. Maybe a scene of something beautiful, rather than the suffering screams and bleeding bodies of their fellow victims. What do you think?"

Ellone looked at the young man appraisingly, a gruff smile on her face. "So that was you. I thought I felt magic being used."
She looked around at the various patients, many of whom were moaning or else silently sobbing with pain and fear. Others simply lay listlessly waiting for death to take them. It was a pitiful and heart breaking sight.
"Yes ... perhaps it would be a good idea to ease their suffering. But talk to their healers first. You'd be amazed at what some of these girls can cure."

Kecek walked around to several of the healers, getting their permission for some, while some of the healers were able to ease the pain of their patients with their own abilities.
The last one he came to was Nene. He victim was rather badly injured, but from what he'd seen in the past few moments, he wouldn't be surprised if she could fix it, especially since she'd been the one that that soldier was looking for.
There had to be some reason.
"Excuse me," Kecek started, "I've been going around trying to ease the pain of those who might not...well, those who won't make it. You see, I'm an illusionist, and I'm able to make their mind experience...more pleasant...final moments."
"Can you tell me, is this something that I can do for your patient? I've learned not to underestimate the healing power of the priests and priestesses of your temple, but I'd like to offer my abilities, just in case."

Nene looked up from where she was finishing tying the bandages of her patient at Kecek, then back down at the woman. Her wounds had been severe, and she was pale with blood loss, sweat from her fever making her forehead shine as she shook and murmured incoherent ramblings in her deleria. She would likely survive, but if she didn't have to suffer ...
"She should survive, but she's got a fever and is suffering," Nene answered slowly, "If you could help ease her pain, help her believe she's strong enough to fight ... and perhaps sponge her down a bit to cool her?" she added with an apologetic grin, jerking her head at the line of injured, "I need to see to the others ... no rest for the wicked, after all."

Kecek smiled in response, "Surely. You'd better get to work on the others."
Kecek took the sponge in his hand and made sure it was cool and damp, before placing it on her forehead.
"You're going to be fine," he spoke gently as he started his illusion over the woman.
She would see sunshine coming in through the doorway, the darkness dying and the rainy, foggy atmosphere giving way to an amazing spring morning. She would no longer hear the screams of pain of her fellow victim, but rather the sound of children playing and her friends telling her that she was going to make it, and her mind would be at ease.
And even beyond that, she would feel and increased strength within her. Mind, body, and soul. Whether or not she thought she would make it before now was irrelevant, because now she knew she had the strength.
Kecek checked her vitals as best he could.
She would survive, that much he was sure of. And she was a strong one. He was certain that even without his illusion she would've been fine, but it still felt good to have been able to ease this woman's pain.

Tanyo heard the man's plan and smiled as his path became clearer. He began to hum, weaving strength into the illusions, the sound itself lending a bit of healing...all he could really offer. He stepped over to the nearest window, looking after the soldiers who had worn the emblem of the Scorpion so casually. They would be back. That much, at least, was certain. And he would have to choose again.

Kecek felt another magical force joining his own, and smiled. A nearby man had started humming, and Kecek knew he was the source. The woman wouldn't feel any pain, not through his illusions, and the other man's magical musical abilities.
Kecek had heard of men like this. They traveled under the premise of simple minstrels or bards, but they were more than they seemed, much like himself and his illusions.
As the womans mind was put to ease, her body began to let itself rest. Nene's magical healing had been enough for her body, and Kecek and the other man helped to heal her mind.

Zha-Vel S'Darkrune was annoyed. He'd put one of his strongest weather runes on his boots, but they had persisted in springing a leak just at the toe. With a growl of frustration, he changed his steps from the side street he had been walking down and moved back out toward the main road. Just in time to run into a soldier that was moving very quickly. His runes protected him from sitting in the dirt, but he still staggered back a step, his face beginning to flush with anger. First his boots, and now this! He started to curse the man, then stopped as he spotted the Scorpion on the soldier's tunic. Ah, so they were out again? Instead of cursing, he smiled as he steadied the soldier, who had also staggered. "Bit of a dust up. But no harm done." His steadying hand came away, but he had quickly drawn a rune of friendship and friendliness on the man. (Npc or whoever... )
