Today I can say one of our rescues is fully rehabilitated. Ben came to us because his owners had bought him (for a lot of money too) and then due to inexperience combined with laziness they let him down. At the tender age of just 5, this Andalusian x Arabian gelding was used, abused and abandoned. Ben injured his leg and they didnt treat the wound. It got infected and very badly damaged the tendon. Then they just abandoned him on somebody's land because they couldn't be bothered doing anything with him. We took him on and the first Vet to see him said we might as well shoot him because he'd NEVER be ridable, the tendon would never heal strong enough to support a rider's weight. Well - 7 months later look at him go! (me riding) OUR Vet has passed him as riding sound! Hooray!

Edit: for all those non horse people... his colour is bay (brown with black mane, tail and points... points being legs, eartips, muzzle) and he's a pretty normal bay - bordering on blood bay but bloods are a bit lighter in the body and redder too. Andalusians are a spanish breed, solidly built horses that are very strong, affectionate, sensible and were bred for bullfighting and Arabs are slender, light, small and with high tail carriage and with dished facial profiles and were originally bred by the arabs for hot conditions, little water and long distance riding - both breeds are very hardy. Andalusians are the sorts of horses that would be used in our Roman RPG - the romans took many horses from Spain as they were quality animals with great temperments. oh and btw a gelding is a castrated male.

Pretty sweet. Though I know nothing about horses, the rehabbing of animals is awesome.
