Jess sat down with a sigh. I need a new job.[/b] she thought, grimacing as she glanced at her pile of paperwork. She just couldn't be bothered right now. The office was empty, everyone had gone out on various errands. Oh well, might as well get in a few minutes of fun time while they were gone.
Logging onto Chaos Sword she saw immediately a new RPG was posted. Clicking onto the page she quickly read the storyline - a futuristic sci-fi with the galaxy split in two... sounded like something she could sink her teeth into. Hurriedly she glanced to see who had generated the new RPG. A new member? Xondall. Who the heck? Oh well, must be some friend of Cody's or something.
Within minutes she'd created a character... Taya, a good soul but a bit of a bad-ass. This was going to be fun. Clicking onto the actual RPG thread itself, Jess settled down to read the introduction. The part about the galaxy at war was heading it, then a new bit which led to the opening of the story.
"The ship was fast, a small Talebethian built transporter which had been crudely converted into an all-round living vessel. It was quick, nimble and was able to slide under the radar of most areas, where the defense mechanisms were built to detect threatening warships, not transporters.
Right this moment it was currently under threat. Its engines screamed at full power and from a distance it seemed to swoop, twist and soar through the vacuum of space much like a swallow after a juicy insect.
An unlucky hit rocked the small ship, throwing the pilot out of her chair. The control board began to fizz and crackle. An unearthly blue light emitted from it... the pilot swore..."
Suddenly Jess sat up in shock. As she read the last line of the introduction of the fictional RPG, her computer began to glow blue and fizz with energy.
"What the hell?" she frowned. Suddenly the screen blinked and now instead of looking at the Chaos Sword screen, she appeared to be looking through a window into a movie set or something that was showing exactly what she'd just read. Before she had time to register shock, she suddenly blacked out.
Awaking on a hard, metallic vibrating floor in the cockpit of the spaceship she'd been reading about robbed her of speech. She found herself staring dumbfounded at the back of the pilot's chair where an odd looking woman was busy punching buttons and turning some sort of joystick or steering mechanism. The pilot hadn't noticed her presence.
"What the f*** is going on?" she asked. In the space of three seconds the pilot had punched another button, leapt from the chair and was now crouching with a deadly looking handgun loaded and pointing at Jess's left eyeball. The woman narrowed her eyes.

Twilight slid into the nearest empty seat in the computer lab. It looked like she had time before her next class to get in a bit of time on chaossword...well, as long as she was getting notes on Government at the same time.
As usual, the first thing she did was click on the Story Board and see if anyone had posted. Ah! Someone had! And there was a new thread too. Well, she'd get to that in a moment. She skipped through the other RPGs, answering posts and reading others, then went back to the new RPG. It looked good, like it would be a neat replacement for the failed Sci-fi RPG. Probably Kage or Jessimyre had put it up. They always had good ideas...but no...it was...Xondall? Odd name. Well, it would be fun trying it out.
Quickly she created a character, seeming to bear some unfortunate resemblence to herself as well as some of her other characters, but she was kind of in a hurry. It was ok, Flare was clever enough to overcome that in time. She clicked on the RPG, quickly skimming through the opening lines. A galaxy at war, yep, yep...the usual...hmm. What's this? The hold of a spaceship? Oh well, stowing away would go along with Flare's survivalist nature.
"The floor shook and vibrated under Flare's body, the walls seeming to loom close and fall away alternately as the ship jinked about space. She hoped she wasn't the reason they were being pursued, as she'd just grabbed the nearest avaliable ship that wasn't from the superpower. A heavy blow rocked the ship and sent her spinning across the floor despite her grip on the cargo. She brought up hard agains another crate, wincing as it dug into her side. That sounded like a hit... Maybe she should go up and see if she could be of any use at all... It wasn't like she knew much about ships, but perhaps..."
Suddenly the computer screen in front of Twilight flared blue, and sparks crackled along the cords. Whoa! What was this? She shoved back from the table, wishing that someone would notice...but no, not even the computer monitor seemed to hear the loud crackling. The screen cleared then, and she tentatively pulled the chair back into place, reaching for the mouse. What showed now was a picture of the hold, with Flare just about to climb up the stairs. It was very detailed, just like she'd imagined it and everything... A spark jumped from the mouse to her, and she blacked out.
Twilight came to herself, seated on top of a crate near the stairs. She stared at the woman in front of her in shock. It was Flare... ok. There must have been an accident in the computer lab. She was in a hospital, halucinating or something. Her hands gripped the edges of the crate convulsively, and the metal dug in, a corner tearing at her skin.
She lifted her hand and stared at the blood, then looked back up at Flare. "This isn't a dream, is it?" she asked the air.
Flare stared at her. "Well, you sure seem to be capable of transporting or whatever. I don't think I'm dreaming that you appeared in a wash of blue light."
"Oh." Twilight looked around. "You were just going up to see if you could help, weren't you." She wasn't asking. She stood slowly. "Well, maybe we can find out just what's going on." She looked at the stairs, then over at Flare. She'd 'created' her, so she knew Flare wouldn't like someone behind her. "I'll just go ahead of you, ok?"

Sarah leaned back in the study chair as the computer loaded up. School was over the day - finally! She clicked on her profile and waited while her settings loaded. She really should have been working on that English essay ... not to mention the History one. Oh well, she thought, signing in to MSN and bringing up the internet.
The first thing Sarah noticed when she logged on to Chaos Sword was that a new RPG had been posted. Oh, brilliant! she thought, clicking on it. Who posted it? Xondall. Who's that?
She gave the matter no more thought however, as she quickly created a character. Kali was similar to Lilia from #3, which Sarah assumed this RPG was replacing, and had been living inside her head for a while. Might as well write about her, she thought. Now ... let's see ...
A galaxy at war. Of course. Well, Kali was a mechanic. So she'd probably be servicing ships.
'Finally, Kali started the ship up to check her repairs were fine. Not that she doubted them, but it never hurt to check. And it was a good thing she did too, as the computer immediately began flare blue, the same bright hue at Kali's hair, and it spat sparks at her. What was going on? She leaned over the keyboard and began to type in commands.'
Then the computer screen in front of Sarah flared blue and spat sparks at her. She reeled back in astonishment. She knew her computer sometimes acted weirdly, but this was going way over the top. And it was exactly as she had described in the RPG.
As quickly as it had happened, the blue flare from the screen died down. Sarah leaned forward and saw with surprise that an image had appeared on it. A young girl her age ... with nut brown skin, and long blue hair ... leaning over a ship's computer and typing ...
Sarah paled. No way. She reached for the mouse and yelled as a stray blue spark burned her skin. Then she blacked out.
She woke up on a cold, metal floor. Pushing herself into a sitting position, Sarah looked around and started. She was in a ship's main bay and there in front of her, back turned was a girl with nut brown skin and long blue hair.
".....Kali?" Sarah croaked, her voice barely above a whisper. The mechanic swung round, a gun already in her hands. She pointed it at Sarah's forehead and narrowed her eyes.
"Explanation. Now."

Joel finally made it home after a late night playing DnD, too awake to fall asleep yet, so he took out his laptop and set it up. First checking his email and then Chaos Sword. A new member had joined. He even made an RPG story, Joel had been waiting for a new one for a while so he instantly made a character. Then turning his attention to the story he read the short bit that had been added already. Joel was quickly confused, how could his character be in the story already, that's one amazing coincidence. Apparently Ariik had found a battle he had been looking for. He fought a creature in the docks of a rather large ship. there wasn't much previous information on the battle, but it was sounding pretty epic from what Joel read so he wasn't to disappointed. He was going to take over a pretty awesome NPC. After a bit of the battle Arriik struck a nearby computer panel to through sparks in his opponents face. As Joel read this his screen turned black and shot out some sparks. Joel assumed it was his POS finally giving out. But soon his screen clicked back n but this time he didn't see Chaos Sword he saw the battle he had just been reading. This new member was a computer genius, but Joel knew his computer wouldn't be able to handle this kind of graphics for long so he went to grab the mouse to close it, but when he did a blue spark shot into his hand. He opened his eyes and looked up, just in time to see a creature falling on top of him. Joel quickly threw the body off of him then looked around and quickly spotted what exactly resembled the Arrik he had seen on the screen but a few seconds ago. Ariik looked at stoically just like he had through the entire battle. The pointed his blade at Joel's neck. Joel had quite a bit of sword training but not nearly enough to even scratch the fighting he had just witnessed. Ariik closed in on him and calmly asked for Joel's name, he just stood their frozen in fear and amazement.

Twilight climbed the stairs, feeling the muscles in her back twitching. She didn't like people behind her either, but at least she knew that Flare wasn't likely to stick a knife into her. She spun open the hatch to the main deck and poked her head through. The tableau that meant her gaze did not signal any good prospects for her or Flare.
She sensed Flare come up beside her and moved aside to make room. Together they exchanged glances, then stared out at the pilot...a woman, who was holding a gun on another woman... Whoa! That looked like...
"Jessimyre?!"

Despite her predicament, the sound of the all-too-familiar name made her look round in shock. Two other women were entering the hold. Neither looked familiar but... one had known her screen name... one looked normal.
"Huh?" Jess answered stupidly. The woman with the laser backed off, alternating her aim at both the two who had just entered and Jess who was still on the floor, not daring to move.
Another blast, the ship rocked almost knocking anyone who wasn't on the ground already to the floor.
"Sit down and shut up!" the woman ordered before springing back into the pilots seat and spinning the craft with practised ease, dodging further blasts and gunning the engines until they screamed with the stress.
"I want explanations the minute we're safe. And don't think about trying anything, I can still put a hole through you from here." the woman snapped. Jess barely caught her words over the sound of the engine but already she was looking at the other two. She glanced worriedly at the normal, human looking one.
"Do I know you?"

"Technically, yes. Chaos Sword." Twilight glanced around the upper deck, then back at Jessimyre. "I'm Twilight." Her lips quirked in smile and she added, "Twilight Blade."
She looked over at Flare. "And this is...Flare."
Flare jerked as she heard...Twilight?...say her name. "Where'd you find that out?"
Twilight grabbed at the wall as the ship twisted, then replied quickly, "Tell you later."

Sarah stared cross-eyed at the gun pointed at the middle of her forehead.
"Explanation," said Kali, eyes narrowed, "Now."
"Uhh .... I really wish I could give you one ..." Sarah replied in a whisper.

Flare sighed and relaxed a little as the ship entered an astroid belt that suddenly stretched its dangerous bulk across their path. "She's a good pilot, and things should be calmer now," she gestured toward the pilot. "So talk while we move. We may not throw these guys off in this belt, but..." She shrugged, waiting.
"Well," Twilight hesitated, glancing over at Jessimyre. "This might sound crazy, but I was playing on the computer at school, a sci-fi rpg...ah, that's a role-playing game by the way...and was just reading about the intro, which happened to be you in the hold of this ship, and my screen went funny...I...blacked out...and the next thing I knew I was sitting on that crate in the hold."
She cleared her throat and added, "And I'm assuming you got here basically the same way." She tipped her head to the side, looking enquiringly at Jessimyre.

"Yeah, I did. It was the weirdest thing. That must mean our pilot is my character then, she's straight out of my head." Jess shook her head as though to try and clear away the strangeness of the situation.
"So if we're here. Who else is? Is this some sort of hallucination?"

Twilight held up her bloody hand. "Not unless illusion includes pain and blood." she replied dryly. "And if we're here, then whoever else that wants to join in the rpg is likely to be sucked in wherever their characters are."
She sent an apologetic look at Flare. "I...um...'created' you on-line. That's how I knew who you were and some of what was going on."
They had reached a fairly open bit of space towards the middle of the astroid belt, and a planet loomed ahead. The pilot didn't look busy...
"Um, hey, pilot or...sorry, I have no clue who you are." She shook her head at herself then went on. "Does what I've been saying explain anything? ...Or would ya rather just shoot us?" She smiled faintly. "Natually we'd prefer that you don't, but I don't have any more explanation than the one I just gave."

"My name, is Taya." Taya snapped over her shoulder, "And if anyone wants to entertain the idea they created me, I will quite happily 'un' create them. Now just sit tight, let me get us hidden and then we will talk." she zoomed toward the planet, the asteroid belt having set their larger persuers back a little - giving them the chance to escape.
Jess gave Twilight a meaningful look. She hoped she could get her alone for a moment. Nobody would like to be told they were purely figments of somebody else's imagination.

Twilight shook her head at herself. She'd done it again. She really was trying to control her tendency to say more than she had to. Flare was looking back and forth at them, then at Taya. Twilight hoped that she wasn't too bothered by this. She glanced back at Jessimyre and shrugged ruefully.

Flare looked at Taya, who was obviously concentrating hard and NOT in a good mood, then over at the other two people. Boy, had she ever picked a ship to stow away in. But... She shuddered. Much better to have stowed away here than have stayed where she was.

Jessi held on to her seat and simply watched in amazement as Taya expertly flew the ship to safety. She was still having a hard time believing it, she was in space. In a ship. She was in a story for heavans sake!
Before she knew it, the ship had dived for cover at one of half a dozen small space-ports on a small moon - the other side of the asteroid belt. Once they had safely landed, Taya turned around in her chair and sat, staring at the three intruders.
"Speak up, and it had better be good." she said, one hand resting on her knee, weapon prepared.

"What do you mean you can't give me an explanation?" Kali snapped, but before she could get any further someout banged on the ship door. The hollow metal ring echoed throughout the bay they were in, making Sarah wince slightly.
"Oi! Mechanic!" A nasal, greasy voice called out. "You finished it there or what? I wanna get goin'!"
"Yeah ... yeah, I'm finished. Be just a sec," Kali yelled back. She turned to Sarah, lowering her voice to a whisper, "Say nothing. Just follow me. Try anything funny and you'll find yourself unable to do anything. Got it?"
Sarah nodded dumbly, wondering to herself if she had really imagined Kali as quite so ... violent. She watched in abject terror as the blue haired mechanic scuttled around the bay, shoving all over her tools into a canvas shoulder bag. When she was finished Kali strode over and hoisted Sarah to her feet, shoving the gun, which Sarah knew would fire enough electricity to turn an elephant into a shish-kebab, into the small of her back.
The two walked over to the ship entrance. Kail reached over and keyed in a number on a pad by the door, which opened with a faint whooshing sound. Outside a tall, skinny man who looked distinctly like a ferret was waiting and pushed past them without a word. Still pointing the gun at Sarah's back, Kali directed her out of the ship into a long, low hangar filled with various ships and people.
"Wh-where are we?" Sarah murmured, eyes wide behind her glasses as she looked around.
"We're on a space port on Eon-5," Kali replied irritably. When Sarah looked at her blankly she rolled her eyes and snapped, "One of Aeson's moons?"
"Um ... sure."
"Now how did you get onto that ship? And how do you know my name?"
"I ... um, well ... you won't believe me."
"Try me," Kali hissed, eyes narrowing.
"Fine," Sarah snapped back, her own patience wearing as fear crept in, "I was on my computer at home, and I was writing an intro for this sci-fi rpg ... role playing game ... about you fixing that ship when my computer started fizzing blue sparks. I fainted and the next thing I knew I was on that ship. With you."
"I'd be slightly more incredulous if my computer hadn't started fizzing blue sparks just before you showed up. What do you mean you were writing an intro about me?"
"My introduction into the rpg ... introducing my character."
"I'm your character?" Kali froze behind her, and Sarah was suddenly very aware of the gun at her back. The mechanic continued furiously, "What are you saying? You made me up? I'm not real?"
"If you weren't real I'd be far less worried about the gun at my back," Sarah hissed.

Jessi told her story, then Twi told hers. They were very simular and the crackling blue flare had puzzled them all. Taya sat in silence for a moment, thinking. Finally she spoke up.
"Well, you can't be lying because you were separated until a short time ago. And I would've heard you making up a story together. Plus you're both here, you both seem to be as dopey as a D'arga and there's no way to suddenly teleport as you seem to have outside of stories." she decided.
"So now you get off my ship, all three of ye and I don't want to see your faces again. Understand?"

Twilight sighed. "Would if I could, but you know...I'd rather not die. Don't suppose you'd take us to a habitable planet at least?"
Flare just looked at Taya for a moment. "Or perhaps you could just get us away from those Empirialists..."

Kali seemed to be satisfied with the answer, as her grip relaxed slightly and the gun was no longer pressed so hard against Sarah's spine.
"Just come with me," she muttered into Sarah's ear, marching her across the port hangar and weaving between crowds of people. "Don't do anything stupid."
"Do I have a choice?" Sarah replied evenly, to which Kali poked her with the gun. That shut her up.

Abby finally managed to get some time to herself. The computer beckoned and she logged on to Chaos Sword. She’d been hoping to catch an interesting looking RPG as it began and here was one practically made to order. Xondall…okay, whoever that was…futuristic story, war, adventure…she was so IN!
She sketched out her character carefully. A guy, partially because she liked the challenge of having to think like the opposite sex and also because the RPG’s were sometimes short on males. She started to use a character she’d already half-developed but a new one kept trying to emerge. So she set the other character aside and wrote out Shadow’s profile instead.
Abby finished the profile, typing the words, “His mother died in his arms.” And she could see it, the strong young man clutching the broken body of his mother, the tears streaking his contorted face, the sole remaining survivor of his clan.
She knew his anger was slow to kindle but once roused he would set the very galaxy itself on fire. Tears filled Abby’s own eyes, obscuring her vision as the computer screen began to glow blue. “That’s so good,” she sniffled, reaching out one arm for a tissue, “damn, I’m good…”
A hand clamped around her outstretched arm and after a brief unbalanced instant, Abby bashed into a wall and was held there, her arm bent up behind her and a heavy weight against her back The blinding blue glow faded almost immediately to a pulsing blue.
“Ow.” She gasped in a damp little voice, metal smooth and hard against her cheek, glasses askew.
“And how,” a man’s voice, tightly clipped and low, “in all seven hells did you manage to do that?” His accent was thick, barely understandable.
Abby was silent, trying to sort out where she was. Kleenex boxes, after all, don’t normally act this way.
“I’m…I don’t know what I did.”
There was a pause during which Abby became aware of a soothing pulsing sound that dominated the space they were in.
The weight lifted and she was peeled away from the wall. A black man looked down at her, the back of her white t-shirt still held in one hand.
He looked her over and didn’t seem impressed. She rubbed her cheek, drying tears and sniffing, righting her glasses. It was a wonder they hadn’t broken.
He let her go, turning to pick up a small roll of silvery tape from the floor. The wall to her left wasn’t a wall at all but was filled with rods, blue pulses of energy running along them at intervals. They obviously were longer than the room was high, disappearing into the ceiling and floor through openings scalloped to fit them.
When the man straightened and stowed the tape in one of his many pockets Abby knew him. But how could it be?
“Shad?”
He looked up sharply and stared at her for a long moment.
“So. Not only can you walk through walls but you know my name.”
He let quiet spin out, inviting explanation, one hand resting on his hip, the other hovering at his side. Abby tried to make sense of the situation before he decided she was a threat.
“I can’t tell you what happened,” she saw his hand drop a little, knew there was a weapon hidden there, “…but!” She rushed on holding up her hands a little, “But that’s only because I don’t understand it myself.”
“Explain.”
Abby laughed nervously.
“You won’t believe me.”
He was silent, intent, unsmiling. His tiger eyes were watchful.
“Oh-kay…well. I was sitting at my computer writing. A story, um, a Role-playing story,” Abby decided not to tell him that he was a figment of her imagination, “about a ship in a war. And then I was here.”
Another silence. The engines powered up, there was a settling feeling to everything, and then the pulsing slowed in a sleepy way. Shad ignored it.
“A ship in a war.”
“Yes.”
“I think you’d better come with me.”
Shad grabbed Abby’s elbow and strode out of the engine room and down a corridor, heading for the command bridge. Abby had to trot to keep up though she could tell he would drag her if necessary.

Twilight shrugged. "Fine. All that means is that we get knocked over the head and sold off instead of dying immediately. Sounds good." She nodded sagely, her hazel eyes cool. "Works."
Flare nudged Twilight in the ribs with an elbow. "Hey, look...thanks for doing this. We appreciate the ride." She grinned at Jessi and Twilight. "We'll be fine. I have...contacts."

The corridor was cramped and conduits, wires, and mysterious lights studded the walls. Abby fought vertigo as she glanced down and straight through the mesh gangway. She’d never liked heights and being able to see straight down into other levels of the ship froze her insides.
Shad didn’t give her time to freeze up, though, as he towed her in his wake. It obviously never occurred to him that there was anything to be uneasy about so she said nothing.
When he stopped she ran into him. And he held her off with a look of concentration.
“What is the name of this ship?” He asked in that clipped heavy accent, his amber eyes piercing.
“I don’t know.” Abby said after a moment’s thought. That hadn’t been included in the story yet or else she couldn’t remember it.
Shad looked at her unsmilingly.
“Where have we landed?”
Abby hated having to say it, “I don’t know.”
Shad fell silent, his gaze boring into her, puzzlement floating in the depths. Abby could sense him analyzing her.
Damn, why didn’t I make him stupid? But she knew why, vanity. She liked her characters to be intelligent. She just never expected to meet one. And, besides, did she really create him? Or was her imagination simply reporting on something that already existed?
“So you know about me.”
“Yes.”
“And that the ship was under attack.”
“Yes.”
“Do you know by whom?”
“By the Superpower that,” she hesitated, “that you hate.”
His eyes narrowed dangerously. His nostrils flared for a second then he grabbed her arm again and she was once again trotting desperately to keep up with her arm, which he held casually but in a very, very definite way.
Then he reached a door which he thundered on with one square fist rather than pressing the buttons beside it.
"Taya!" He snapped, "Open up, it's Shad. We have a visitor."

Jess's eyes flicked to the hatch as the man outside announced his presence. Taya shot them a warning glance before opening the hatch from her console. They waited a few minutes as the newcomer entered the ship and negotiated his way to the cockpit or bridge or whatever the small control room in the little ship was called.
"Funny, that." Taya answered Shad as he entered the room, yet another oddly dressed stranger behind him, "I have some too. And they're just leaving."
Jess looked over at the new girl and her eyes widened, somebody else from earth? She certainly was wearing the right clothes! "Choas Sword?" she asked, already knowing the answer.
