Alois sighed. "Ah, did. Wan know wha y'al in fer," she replied, "Some ya ain't dogers."
Not meaning to insult anyone's intelligence, translation: I did. Want to know what you all are in for. Some of you aren't on the dodge.
She peered down, then struck a carefully shielded match, cupping it in her palms as she leaned over.
"Damme 'f tain't lot o' ya t'night."
Damn me if there aren't a lot of you tonight.

Joss saw nothing but gloom overhead until the speaker's face was suddenly illuminated, seeming to flicker overhead. Tonight? So whoever this was had been here other nights.
"Who are you?" Joss asked.
She shot a fearful glance at the stone steps, hoping that the horse-faced guard and his cronies wouldn't be back but dreading that they might come any minute.
((Twilight, I appreciate the translations!))

(oh, good. Thanks for letting me know.) **** Alois chuckled softly. "M' a pirate. Name's Alois. Wha ya in fer? Ya par' o' tha bilge of a fight o'er a' the tav'n? Thought ah'd seen ya." I'm a pirate. Name's Alois. What you in for? You part of that bilge of a fight (a very bad fight) over at the tavern? Thought I'd seen you.

A pirate! If being locked up with criminals while awaiting the attentions of men who made her skin crawl wasn't bad enough, now she was talking to a pirate. They came into the tavern, certainly, and she served them food and drink like anyone else but Virgil never let her talk to them.
But Virgil wasn't here was he?
"I'm Joss," she told the hovering face, "and I was there. I guess I was knocked unconscious...then I was here. They let the others go but not me." She bit her lip, liking the implications less and less. "Can you get us out?" It was worth asking, anyway.

Alois shrugged, then felt around the hole to make sure it really was as large as she'd thougth.
"Bet'cha. Y'al 'r on slip side?" She unwound the coil of rope she'd worn around her waist for getting into the warehouse, then attached it to the chimney and dropped in down into the cell.
Bet you. You all are on the skinny side?
"Mon up. Single," Alois said quietly. "Watch fer t'others. They'ms prolly wan out, so."
Come on up. Singly. (one at at time). Watch our for the others (prisoners not in that cell). They probably want out too.

Noros looked over to Hattie, the girl he'd spoken to earlier, then eyed the pirate, "It looks like you won't be needing me after all."
Without waiting for a reaction, he retired back to staring blankly at the floor, waiting until the others were safely out before he'd make his move.

Hattie looked from the man in the next cell, to the pirate suddenly offering a way out. She felt bad about leaving him as he'd offered hope and help. However he seemed to be confident the cells wouldn't hold him... she shrugged helplessly and nodded thanks to him.
"Good luck." she whispered to him and turned to await her turn on the rope - escape offered by the stranger.
At that moment, prisoners in nearby cells began to realise that the women were escaping.
"Take us with you!" a man cried out. Soon the others began to realise the same - Hattie's heart began racing. It was a matter of moments surely before the prison was in an uproar and the guards came down to see what was causing it.
"We 'ave to hurry!" she gasped at the others.

"'Ey!" Alois called. "Shut yer gobs! Ye mak a ruckus an' Ah'l n'er ge' ye out! Ah'l ge' 'em locks fer ye!"
Hey! Shut your mouths! You make a lot of noise and I'll never get you out! I'll get those locks for you!
Meanwhile, she hauled up on the rope, the woman at the other end much lighter than most of the loads she was used to. With a grunt, she caught the woman's arms and pulled her up through the hole and onto the roof.
"Ge' ye go' e'en ye can. E'en ye canna, Ah'l be 'long."
Get you going if you can. If you can't, I'll be along.
Without waiting for a reply, she began to haul at the rope and pull up the next woman.

"Hurry, hurry!" Joss hissed, afraid that at any moment the guards might come to see what the noise was about.
As soon as the rope dropped again she leaped for it, going hand over hand as quickly as possible, riding out the sudden drop then pendulum swing of the rope and fighting her skirts.
The rope began to pull upward, Joss with it, and she popped out into the cooler air. The sounds below were becoming alarming.

"'Ere ye go. Migh' wan go 'long naow, Joss." Alois told the woman as she helped her onto the roof. She dropped the rope back down. "R else, ye kin 'elp 'em as'l be a'comin up."
Here you go. Might want to go along now, Joss. Or else, you can help them as will be coming up (the rope).
With that, she followed the rope down, and headed for the bars and lock of the cell, reaching for her lock picks. If they wouldn't work, at least it would keep the others quiet once they figured out she wasn't planning on leaving them behind.
Edit: And yes, she is probably only average or less at lock picking, but I figured if the captain had been sending her out to get into a warehouse or three, she must have some skill...

Joss nodded to her new friend.
"I'll help." She was already escaping from prison with the aid of a pirate and other criminals. She might as well stay now.
In for a penny, in for a pound, she thought, and grabbed the rope along with some others.

As soon as the rope dropped again, Belle grabbed it and began to climb upwards. The others at the top pulling caused it to swing, so Belle tried to counterbalance herself. With full skirts and little experience in climbing it wasn't easy, but soon she was through the hole, the cool night air brushing her scarred face.
The sounds below were starting to die down as the prisonsers realised what the pirate intended, but were still loud enough to alarm her. The guards would surely be down any minute now.

Um...Blossom? She looks and acts like a guy...
Alois worked hard at the lock, finally jiggling it loose with one last twist. She swung open the cell door, then headed straight for the nearest cell, and began work on that lock, all the while muttering to herself.
"Should'na be a din' this. Stupid. Cap'n says, 'Go to the warehouse Alois.', an' Ah en' up 'ere." She paused to call out as loudly as she dared, "Quie'r! 'Em scum a bein' a com'n bak. Ye wan stay 'ere fer'er?"
Shouldn't be doing this. Stupid. Captain says, 'Go to the warehouse Alois.; and I end up here. Quieter! The scum (guards) will be coming back. You want to stay in here forever?"

Hattie took a deep breath of the fresh night air. She kept herself low and tried to be inconspicuous in case somebody looked their way and began to wonder why there were people on the roof - right where they shouldn't be. The pirate said he'd be along and as young as he sounded Hattie wasn't leaving alone. Where would she go?
The loud woman was up, and was helping the last onto the roof. The pirate was nowhere to be seen but she could hear the prisoners down below. And then, the noise they'd all been dreading.
"Oi! What d'ye think you're doin!" The voice of the prison's Captain! Hattie froze in alarm even though the voice was coming from below.

Noros sat in his cell calmly. The guards wouldn't do anything to him, as he wasn't escaping at the moment. This might make his later escape a bit more difficult though. He'd have to wait and find out.

Alois whipped around as she heard the guard's yell, the lock opening on the cell just then. She sprang back, yanking open the door to the cell she had just opened.
"Go!" she cried at the men inside, and as they flooded out, running to fight the guards, she slipped back into the cell the women had left, and jumped high, going for the ceiling. With a quick check to make sure none of the guards could see her, and that the prisoners were looking elsewhere, she climbed the rope onto the roof.

The pirate was light and came up through the roof easily.
"Let's get out of here!" Joss hissed.

Alois nodded sharply, looking around at all of the other women. "O'er 'ere. Ye wan com or no?"
She turned away across the roof, waving at Joss to follow, heading for the easiest and best way down. They could easily avoid any guards that way as well. If the women could climb.

Hattie hurried after the pirate, her heart hammering in her chest. She was certain that any second she'd hear gunshots and she and the other women would be the targets. She scurried along quickly, easily keeping up and squinting hard and straining her eyes in the darkness.

Belle followed, thankful she was in shape and able to keep up with the quick pace set by the pirate boy. Her vision hampered her though, her clouded left eye making seeing in the darkness even harder. A few times she stubbed her toe and hissed under the breath.

It was a good thing that Joss wasn't really thinking about the fact that she was fleeing over rooftops in the dark or she probably would have broken her neck.
As it was, she kept pace with the pirate boy even when, with no hesitation whatever, he leaped from one building's edge to another. It wasn't a long leap but looking down or hesitating would have made it impossible. Joss sailed over, skirts flying and kept up with the others as fast as she could go.

(( No problem! lol. It's something she would do without really thinking about it...)) Alois slowed, then stopped, glancing back at the three women who had followed her. "Goi'na use the rope 'gain. Kin ye clim'?" Going to use the rope again. Can you climb?

"I can climb well enough." Hattie confirmed. Her thieving over the years to keep herself fed wasn't entirely wasteful, she thought. She hitched up her skirts and tucked them deftly into her drawers.

Alois nodded in approval as the girl deftly prepared to climb down, glancing away as she tucked her skirts up.
"An' the rest o' ye?" She turned to the other two women, then glanced down into the dark alley. "Mayhap Ah best be ganderin' first."
And the rest of you? Maybe I'd best take a look first.
She slipped over the side of the roof, ignoring the rope in favor of the roughness of the wall, and took a careful look up and down the alley. No one was there, or approaching.
"Righ'. S'fin'. Come on down," she called up in a harsh whisper that would carry only to the rooftop. She began to climb back up the wall.
Right. It's fine. Come on down.
