Rika took Clive's proffered hand with a grateful grin, jumping elegantly to the ground. She looked round to see Savannah wrestling briefly with a well built young man before getting up and talking to the others who were there.

Twi finished his flight check and swung himself lightly out of the plane, glancing around at the gathered people.

"This is Juma," Savannah introduced the african who grinned at the new arrivals in a friendly manner. "He works for John and is an old friend."
"Jambo." he greeted them. The other africans talked amongst themselves. Everyone was relaxed until a bellow came from behind.
"Git back to work you idle lot!" and then they scattered, their excuse for breaking off interrupted and very soon the newcomers were alone except for Juma and a thin aging man who came toward them swiftly, a smile on his face and his arms extended.
"Savannah! To what do I owe the pleasure?" John asked. He hugged her and then came forward to shake hands with each of Savannah's companions in turn. Before waiting for an answer, John began ushering them toward the buildings.
"Come on in, come on in. Too hot out here to stand about." the old man said.

Twi closed up the plane and followed, glancing around from one person to the next, and then around the buildings.

They entered the low ceilinged room of the resturaunt. At this time of the afternoon it was empty but there was still girls ready to serve and the fans provided a welcome relief from the hot dusty runway. John signalled one of his staff and before long a tray of cool drinks was on its way over to them.
"Sante." Savannah thanked the girl as she took hers, a tall cool glass of lemonade as only the africans could make it.
"So, John." she spoke to their grey eyed host. "Any news? Anything at all?"
"As a matter of fact, yes." John replied. He waited a moment until everyone was confortable and the girl had left them again before speaking. He reached into his pocket and drew something wrapped in tissue paper out again. He looked around meaningfully at the group.
He placed it in the middle of the table and began to slowly unwrap the object. Savannah leaned in for a closer look.

Rika took out her PDA and switched on the webcam. She wanted Jet to see everything she was seeing.

Twi just watched without a great deal of interest. Flying was his game, and artifacts didn't hold much for him other than if they held beauty.

It was leather, old and almost rock hard with age. The insignia on it was very familiar.
Savannah gasped. A pouch, a leather pouch that surely was supposed to keep the very artifact her father had found safe!
"This isn't native of Africa. This has travelled." She said, reaching forward to brush her fingers lightly over the leather.
"Aye, love." John answered, placing the pouch gently on the table. "Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what animal this came from?" he looked around at the assembled group.

Twi looked at it, looked again, then frowned a little. It...looked familiar somehow, but the answer was lodged in the back of his brain and didn't want to come out.
He glanced around at the others at the table, gauging their reactions, and noticed that Rika had her phone out again.

After a while without anyone guessing, Clive looked up at John, "Are you gonna tell us?"

Twi coughed and ventured a guess. "Looks like deer, but not. ...Wrong texture somehow." He looked up at John, his grey eyes enquiring. "Looks well taken care of too."

"This, my friends," John began, "Is very rare indeed. Hide of a Kashmir Stag, I believe. There's no mistaking this hide and pattern." he unveiled his knowledge with a grin of triumph.
"It took some identifying, let me tell you!"

Twi grinned back. "I'd imagine so. I've only heard about Kashmir as a legend." He nodded to John and leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms.

"I thought the Kashmir were extinct," Rika said, leaning forwards, "How old is it?"

"Old. Very old. I'd say a couple of hundred years but I am sure a good archeologist with the right lab equipment could tell you more exactly." John answered Rika.
"Hmm." Savannah answered, "Another piece of the puzzle. So why, if you have this - are the brothers still out here?" she mused half to herself.
"The brothers?" John enquired, "Surely they haven't returned!"
"I saw them, at the air-port." Savannah answered shortly, jaw set.

"That's them." Savannah acknowledged with a curt nod.
"If they're here, its for a reason."

Twi was beginning to put the pieces together, but remained quiet, watching and listening. Some of the news articles he'd read recently were falling into place in the bigger context, and his role in this was becoming clearer.

Rika frowned and looked at the floor, trying to connect what she knew with what she had learned from Savannah and John. At the other end of the webcam Jet was uncharacteristically quiet. Rika wondered what her sister thought of all this.

(hehe. maybe she can find out more about Twi...perhaps the fact that he was a big game hunter and guide...just not in Kenya)
Twi looked around at everyone, then back out the window at the plane glittering in the sun, and just stopped himself from yawning. He really needed some rest after his last two flights.

"I don't know but I reckon we could find out." Savannah answered. She turned to John. "Reckon you can spare Juma and a couple of the tribesmen for a day or so?" she asked.
"I suppose we could." John grinned, "As long as you come back in one piece." he added.
Savannah nodded, the thrilling feel that the african wilderness always brought on her making her grin.
"I reckon if we head off before dawn we could find some answers and be back in a couple of days." she replied, before turning to the others. "What do you think? Fancy a camping trip?"

Savannah nodded at Clive's words and smiled at Twi, "No flying on this trip, it'll be on foot and we'll be moving fast. But I reckon we'll have use for you anyway." she teased him.
