Sorry all but had to! I had the BEST idea and thought you'd all love it and I KNOW you know you want a Tomb-Raider style RPG! ______________________________________________ The basic plot:Set in the year 2006. Deep in the Masaai Mara of Kenya, east Africa - something has been uncovered. An artifact of great beauty, great age and great mystery. Nobody knows what it is and the only thing clear is that it is a half of a whole. The other half is still missing. The half that has been found belongs to Dr Stephen Mallard of Melbourne Australia, who happened to be on safari with his family when he found the item. An archeologist himself, he and the Melbourne University he works for were completely baffled. Then the item was stolen. Who has it? Where is it? And where is the other half of this mystery object? What is it and who will make it there first? The dangers of such a quest include wild animals, poachers, shifta (yes there really IS a shifta but they are far different to the ones I made up for the writing forums rpg) hostile Masaai warriors and the diseases one can easily pick up in Kenya. NOT to mention the unknown entity that stole the object in the first place and who no doubt are racing to find the second half. Any questions? Just ask me - I have a lot of history with Kenya, its a second home ______________________________________________ Our story opens three weeks after the artefact was stolen from Melbourne in the middle of the crowded Nairobi International Air-port, at 9am after several flights from around the world have arrived in short sucession of each-other...

Savannah sighed impatiently. She held out her passport to be inspected by the desk clerk, and gazed around absently whilst he glared at it. As soon as he was done, she'd be out and boy was she tired of waiting around!
Her flight had been delayed in Melbourne and she'd waited anxiously, hoping that her parents wouldn't discover her absence before it left. Then 24 hours, more or less, on that blasted plane, then not being able to find her luggage for a full hour and now this!
The clerk looked up at her without smiling, studying her features. Savannah held her tongue. If she wanted a visa she'd better keep a lid on it. After a few moments the man sighed and stamped her passport, scribbled a signature and handed it back.
Savannah took it from him and hoisted her pack onto her shoulder, stooping slightly to accomodate the weight. "Sante" she thanked him and he nodded curtly, eyes already seeking the next passenger wanting to enter the country.
Savannah hurried out into the arrivals section of the airport. It was 9am Nairobi time and already the place was packed. A series of screens were showing the arrival of flights from three or four different countries.
"Jambo memsahib," a boy hurried forward, reaching for her pack, "I carry bag?" he pleaded. Savannah shook her head and moved away, "Matokeo ya Utafutaji kwa." she answered in fluent swahili. 'No thank you.' The boy was downcast for a moment but was soon hurrying toward somebody else, hoping to earn some money. Savannah sighed, feeling sorry for he and the thirty or so others begging to be porters for rich passengers alighting into the country. The poor kid was probably the only one in the family able to earn money.
Savannah made her way over to the packed cafe. She looked around and saw that somebody was standing up to leave. Like a vulture she pounced on the table, claiming it for her own before looking around to catch the waitress's eye. She really needed something to drink.
Finally the small woman noticed her and came hurrying over to take her order.
"Coke, thanks." Savannah asked, handing over 100 shillings in payment. The waitress nodded respectfully and hurried away to fill her order, dodging around the tightly packed tables.
The coke arrived quickly, as it should Savanna thought, she'd paid twice the coke's worth, knowing the poor girl would keep the rest as a tip. Savannah took a draught out of the glass bottle, pulling a face. When would she ever learn? They put at least twice as much sugar in soft drinks over here. At least it would wake her up.
Somebody caught Savannah's eye and she turned her head to see...

Twi strode quickly through the airport, his flight jacket draped loosely over one arm, as he searched the airport for a cafe. He'd just come from and thirty hour flight, and he badly needed to eat. The winds had been bad, and he'd fought them all through the first day, most of the night, and for the next six hours...
He shook his head, turning toward the cafe he'd spotted. He could use some sleep too, and a shave. An officious officer had kept him circling for thirty minutes before he'd been able to land, and by that time, getting back to his place was entirely out of the question.
He paused at the edge of the cafe, looking around for an empty seat, and shifting his feet wearily. ...Strange how sitting down would seem so good now, after thirty hours of it.

Rika sat in the airport cafe, a coffee in one hand and a book in the other. Her blonde hair was casually tied in a ponytail, and with her sunglasses and sleek black jacket she gave off an air of cool sophistication.
She wasn't really paying attention to the book in her hand, more interested in the people passing her by. She was still waiting for her sister, Jet, to contact her with her new flight details. Something had happened with the computer system, a freak irregularity, meaning she was stuck in the airport until she could get a flight home. Just my luck, she thought wearily.
Still, it could be fun. There were often real interesting types at airports.

Savannah smiled to herself as she saw the good looking guy scanning the cafe for a seat. He was right near her so she decided to offer a friendly gesture.
"Hey, take a seat." She offered, her accent mixed and unplacable, "It might be a while before a whole table opens up." She had to raise her voice to be heard above the babble of conversation going on in several languages around them.
She noticed that the blonde girl reading a book several tables away was getting a lot of attention from the natives. The africans loved people with blonde hair, as it was so very different to their own.

There were quite a few people staring at her, Rika realised. It was the blonde hair again. She didn't mind people looking, but it could quite unnerving.
She waved a nearby table of people who kept sneaking glances at her. They broke out in grins and waved back enthusiatically. Rika turned back to her book with a small laugh.

"Hey, take a seat," an attractive brunette offered, her accent mixed and unplacable, "It might be a while before a whole table opens up." She had to raise her voice to be heard above the babble of conversation going on in several languages around them.
Twi smiled and nodded, moving easily through the crush of tables toward her. He took a seat across from her. "Thanks. I was beginning to worry." He grinned engagingly at her.

Savannah grinned back. "So what brings you to Nairobi?" she asked him, taking a swig of her coke.

Twi shrugged and smiled. "It's a job and I like flying. Every now and then I head up a river. Why not be in Nairobi?"
He glanced around for a moment, then added quietly, "And there are the people, of course."

"Yes you get all sorts here, have you ever been around Kenya much? The characters throughout the country are even more interesting than here." Savannah answered.
The little waitress was hovering nearby, obviously hoping the man with Savannah would order. Savannah relaxed into her chair and checked her watch.
"With any luck my ride will turn up soon. My flight was delayed but Kenyans are famous for having no concept of time, my family are no exception."

Twi nodded, then turned to the waitress. "Some water, please." He smiled at her and dug out a wad of money, giving her enough for at least three sodas. "Keep the change."
He turned back to the woman. "No, I haven't really been around much. My job doesn't allow me the time for that. How about you?"

"I used to live here for some years." Savannah answered casually, "We had a place up at Lake Naivasha for a while. God it was beautiful, I'll never forget it."
Savannah stretched as far as she could in the crowded area. Then she spotted a familiar face. Her own face changed, tightened and her heart hammered.
"Oh shit." she whispered as the three men, looking no different from the hundreds of passengers around them strolled past, speaking quickly in swahili.
"I," Savannah began. "Look thanks for the chat, I've gotta go." And she rose from the table. She paused and looked down at the guy's puzzled face. "Have a good time and watch out for thieves, keep a close eye on your stuff."

Clive walked up to the metal detector, dropping his coins and watch in the basket before stepping through.
He walked through and picked up his money and watch.
Sighing, he moved about, looked for a place to sit, "God damnit, must've been a delay."

Rika flicked absently through her book, watching as people came and left the airport. When is Jet gonna ring with my flight details? she thought irritably, as she finished her coffee.
She tapped her feet on the empty chair opposite, and checked her watch again for what must be the hundredth time. She'd now been in the airport for two hours waiting for a flight home.
Rika sighed again, and signaled a waitress over. "Could I get another coffee? And something sweet too? I need a sugar boost."
"We have a delicious caramel slice."
"Why not?" Rika dug some money from her purse and handed it to the waitress.

Noticing a girl talking to a waitress, Clive finally spotted an empty seat.
"Mind if I sit here?" he asked as he approached.

The woman stretched, then suddenly tensed watching someone behind him. Footsteps went by, and men's voices speaking in Swahili.
"I," the woman began, "Look thanks for the chat, I've gotta go." And she rose from the table. She paused and looked down. "Have a good time and watch out for thieves, keep a close eye on your stuff."
"Yeah...it was nice meeting you." He rose as well, smiling slightly as he handed her a card. "Just call if you ever need to fly somewhere." He nodded to her and reseated himself, looking after the three men. "Good luck with whatever you're going after."

"Thanks," Savannah answered him, taking the card. She stood and glanced around. The blonde woman had aquired a friend and still the guy she had been talking to was giving her a look of inquisitive good nature. She sighed.
"I could really use a flight up to the Masaai Mara, if you're inclined to take me." Savannah took a chance. All that mattered now was speed. "I can pay."

Twi nodded, immediately rising and turning toward the door. "Sure. Don't worry too much about pay, I just came off a big job." He met her eyes. "When do you want to leave?"

"Right now would be fantastic." Savannah answered, eyeing the men as they disappeared through the front doors of the air port.
"Just as long as we get a head start on them." She muttered to herself.

"Would you like to order anything, sir?" the waitress asked.

"Right now would be fantastic," the woman replied, then muttered under her breath, "Just as long as we get a head start on them."
He gave her a puzzled smile, but nodded. "Right then. Do you need to grab some supplies, or will that be an along-the-way sort of thing? And your family?"
He began to move out of the cafe, waiting for her reply.

The waitress jotted down the man's order then moved off, throwing not-so-subtle glances back over her should. Rika shook her head, smiling, then turned to the man.
"So, what brings you here then?" she asked while surverying him through her sunglasses.
