"Yes," Jael answered, "Jael Kworaan of the far south." but would give no more away about herself.
"I am meeting my companions here." she said as the unusual pair approached the Ram's Trough. Jael glanced around and, unable to see evidence of her companions, turned to Aai and asked, "Would you be so good as to hold my horse for a moment? He is new to me and I do not know if he is trained to stand. I will check indoors to see if my companions are waiting."

"Well come on then." Rin pushed herself up from the chair, once again slinging her pack over her shoulder. "We don't want to keep anyone waiting."

Aai nodded. "Of course." She smiled. "I don't think I can fit through that door anyway." She gestured toward the Ram's Trough.

"Yes, I suppose you're right," Kage answered, leading Rin back to the exit and out of the hideout.
The streets were busy as they walked out of the alley. Kage reached to hold Rin's hand as they entered the crowd, not wanting to lose her before they made it to the Ram's Trough.

"Ah." Jael smiled, spotting Kage and Rin among the crowd, further along the street. "Here they come now." She waited patiently between Fox and Aai, watching her employer's progress with keen eyes.

The streets were busy as they emerged from the hideout. Rin felt herself squashed by the press of bodies. Kage reached for her hand, and she held onto him tightly. She may have been a mage, but that wouldn't stop someone accidentally crushing her.
Finally they emerged from the crowd in of The Ram's Trough. She saw the woman they had spoken to the previous night, Jael, stood outside with a horse and ... Rin blinked. A horse's legs and body ... and a young woman's torso and head. A centaur.
She could hardly believe it. The centaur people hadn't emerged from their home for years. What was this one doing here? And with Jael? Rin decided not to worry about it. They would presumably get answers soon enough.
"Good morning," she called to them as she and Kage neared.

Kage nodded to Jael, and then the centaur.
He wondered what might have caused a centaur to come to Arscertan, but didn't dwell on the thought and walked with Rin until they were a few feet away from the others.
He spoke up, "Shall we go inside? That minstrel must be around here somewhere."
Does anyone want to take control of Tagorious?

"Good morning." Jael answered. At Kage's suggestion to go into the pub, Jael repeated Aai's earlier comment. "Aai would have a hard time fitting through the door. Also I am not sure whether her presence would be welcomed." she said.

Kage shrugged, "I suppose you might be right. We should wait for Tagorious, in any case."

Aai tipped her head toward a disturbance in the crowd was drawing closer. "Would that be him? It seems he is being chased by some servants, but..."
She stopped as the shouts became clearer.
"Tagorious! Stop! You must--"
The slender, blue-eyed man slipped gracefullly from among the crowd, smiling around. Aai stepped back a little. He was...very handsome.
"So, Miss Rin, Kage," he turned a cheerful smile on them, "ready to go? I've found out that Antare Xelua has decided to take another trip. According to rumour, he's found a dagger to compliment Eviscerator, and wants another. Perhaps another you are looking for?"

Rin turned to Kage. "The dagger he's 'found' must be the one stolen from the temple. But how would he know the location of any of the others?"

Aai barely suppressed a gasp of surprise, half rearing.
"You know of this? Of the Airen daggers?" She backed off a couple of steps, her hands near her weapons, eyes narrowing.
"You are also of those who seek them and destroy the guardians?"

Rin turned sharply to look at the centaur.
"You know about them?" When the centaur moved for her weapons, Rin instinctively prepared her magic. She didn't want to fight this creature, but if the centaur attacked her she would defend herself.
:This isn't safe to talk about in the open ... we need to calm her and go somewhere safe to talk, Rin sent to Kage, hoping he'd know of somewhere they could go to.
She then held her hands, palm outwards to the centaur in the gesture of peace.
"We did not destroy any guardians, I promise you that. Please, it isn't safe to talk in the streets."

Jael was surprised at the centaur's reaction. She stepped back warily in case of conflict. The looked between her employers and the centaur. Airien daggers.
So, she thought to herself, we're on a treasure hunt. Interesting.
She held her peace and waited to see what would unfold.

"Indeed," Kage agreed with Rin, "We should find a suitable place to talk alone, just the lot of us."
:She'd better calm down. We don't need any more enemies.

Aai hesitated, then slowly let herself relax. "My pardon. Of course." She slowly stepped forward again. "I am a guardian...or was before the temple was attacked." She looked from one person to the next, then glanced toward the commotion in the crowd that was still coming toward them. "Where would you suggest that we speak?"

Rin glanced behind her at the crowd. Great ... so much for avoiding notice ... she thought.
"Where would you suggest that we speak?" the centaur asked.
"Ehhh ..." Rin turned and looked at Kage. She had absolutely no idea.

Tagorious looked back at the crowd and the servants he knew were getting too close now. "Well, why don't we just walk around until we spot a good place since the Lady centaur cannot enter the Ram's Trough."

"Uh ... okay," Rin nodded, anxious to get away from the gathering crowd.

Tagorious immediately pushed forward, away from the street and its market crowd and headed for the center of town and its small green. They would be reasonably free of people and could spot anyone before they got close enough to hear of what they spoke.
Aai hung back, glancing at Jael worriedly. The woman was really the only one she knew and could even trust a little. If Jael saw nothing wrong with this, Aai felt that she could go along with the group.

Jael was amused by the sudden appearance of the bard. She followed his lead easily, returning Aai's worried glance with a smile. It made sense, to move away from the crowd - she and Aai were attracting far too much attention. Although well paid work was hard to find, Jael felt easy. The growing thrill of adventure was calling her free spirit and she was interested to hear more about the quest she would soon be embarking on.
Soon enough they had reached the green, which was quiet and peaceful. Jael settled herself under a shady tree, her mind at ease and expression of quizzical interest. Fox grazed calmly at her side - not at all concerned with human goings-on.

Rin sat down on the green opposite Jael and the centaur, content that they would not be heard. Still, to be on the safe side she wove a shield around them to block their conversation. It would also prevent Jael and the centaur from attracting so much notice.
More relaxed now, Rin turned her attention to the others.
"So, where should we start?"

"A good question, to be sure," Kage spoke, "First though, I'd like to know what our new companion has in mind for the remaining daggers."
He looked at the centaur, "You said you were a guardian, right? Can you tell us more about what happened when the dagger was stolen?"

Aai nodded, passing a hand in front of her eyes. "I was not there when it happened, but...I was one of the first to see. Every monk, traveler and guardian at the Temple was either killed or greviously wounded. Any who tried to stop the the men who came faced a smiliar fate unless they were able to run. Anything alive in their path was killed." She smiled faintly. "Down to the very insects." She stopped for a moment, her eyes distant, then looked at the man and added, "We believe great magic was used in this, perhaps that of the dagger, although most were killed in swordplay."

"I'm very sorry," Rin murmured, not knowing what else to say. Her mind, however, was racing. Great magic? Could be the Shifta.
"Which dagger were you guarding?" she asked.
