"The Dagger of the Wind," Aai replied quietly, then shifted her stance.
"This Antare Xelua, you have reason to believe he is the one who attacked?" She looked from the bard to the others. "And you are looking for the daggers as well?"

Rin nodded, once again checking her shield to be sure they would not be overheard, and then explained,
"We were told one of the daggers was here, in Ascertan. When we came we found out it had been stolen from the Temple. Tagorious here informed us Xelua is likely to have taken it. We were planning to, uh, liberate it."

Aai smiled, then laughed. "Well, we might have let you." She looked at Tagorious, the bard, then away. "You have a dagger with you, correct?"

Rin smiled back at the centaur. "Two, actually."

Aai stepped to the side, startled. "Two?" She settled again, nodding. "Well, if you would like to speak to those who are yet alive..." She looked from the man to the woman. "The elders would like to meet you."

Jael followed the conversation with a frown. Magic? She didn't like the sound of that. Never having been a part of her life as a small child, then having her family torn apart by magicians Jael had a deep distrust of magic. Yet still, she held her peace. It was not her place to speak against magic and certainly none of her business to ask further.
Just as she opened her mouth to ask a question, there was the sounds of another commotion in the distance. Even Fox lifted his head suddenly to see what the fuss was about. Jael stood up to get a better view from across the green.
Among the crowd there seemed to be some sort of fight going on. The combatants burst through the edge of the people gathering to watch, scattering the gleeful urchins who had run over to watch. Two men stumbled backwards, tripped and fell down.
Jael caught a flash of red hair and a third man scurried out of the crowd, tripping and scurrying to get away. Within moments the crowd had gone silent and suddenly dispersed quietly and at once as though they had all suddenly remembered the errands they had been on before stopping.
The men were the same. It was odd. One moment stumbling, tripping and the next walking away with a vague yet purposful expression. They all seemed to have forgotten the one person remaining who was even now striding across the green as though she owned the place.
Does anyone mind me bringing Winter back? I love her character too much to stop writing about the self assured bitch LOL

Sounds good to me. Go ahead.
"The Airen elders are still alive?" Kage asked, a bit surprised.

Yay, Winter's back!
Rin registered the centaur's words with some surprise before her eyes, too, were drawn by the fight across the green. When crowd suddenly became silent and dispersed, Rin's eyes narrowed with suspicion. Then she saw the red-haired woman striding across the green, and her eyes widened.
"Oh ... my ..." she tapped Kage on the shoulder and pointed, "Looks who's back."

"Indeed," Kage said when he looked up to see Winter emerging from the crowd, "Maybe she has some more information."
He looked at Tagorious, then the other two, and motioned towards Winter, "Looks like we have another addition to our quickly growing party."

Aai had been about to reply to the man, explaining that the Arien elders were not who she was speaking of, when their attention was drawn away to a flame-haired woman striding confidently toward them. And they knew her. She settled back, waiting.

"Come on, then." Winter's first words were a bark of command. "If we want to beat the Shifta to the daggers we'd better get going. They are already on their way to find Xelua."
Jael was taken aback by the new woman's manner. She was beautiful, short in stature but carried herself like a queen. Her flaming red hair and pale skin contrasted sharply with Jael's own dark skin and black hair.
Winter nodded briefly at Jael, Aai and Tagorius collectively before turning her intense green eyes on Kage and Rin. A rare smile flashed over her face. It was clear she was pleased to see them despite her brisk manner.

Aai hesitated, then shifted away from the group. She did not really know enough about them, and the elders should be told of them as it was. Xelua needed no help against the Shifta; not if what had happened at the temple was any indication of his fighting ability. The monks had not been bereft of defensive magics themselves, nor the guardians unable to fight.
She nodded to Jael and the others, and took another step away.

"Nice to see you too," Rin replied, one eyebrow raised, "How'd you know about Xelua?"

Winter's face couldn't quite keep the smirk away entirely. "It's amazing what people will tell you." she replied. She turned to the centaur maid as she backed away.
"My lady," She bowed briefly, showing the long-held respect of the gypsy people for Aai's kind, "I gather you were a guardian. We aim to prevent the daggers falling into the hands of those who would use them for evil." she spoke quickly in way of explaination. Then she turned to Jael and Tagorious.
"I assume you have joined the quest for whatever reason. You must understand this is also a race against time. We must get moving. Introductions and stories may be swapped on the way." She insisted, unusually polite.

"Winter," Kage started with a raised eyebrow, "You've brushed up on your people skills a bit, I see."
"I suppose we'd better get ready and get going."

Aai hesitated again, then stopped and nodded to Winter. "Haste is understandable." She looked at the others. "Jael has a horse, but do you all?" She glanced down, and added apologetically, "Perhaps it would be better if we moved faster than a human's pace?"

Winter called with her mind and within a few moments her steel grey mare, Tirria, trotted toward them out of a side street. She halted obediently by her mistress and Winter stroked her neck affectionately. She turned to Kage,
"Still have the war horse you stole from the Shifta?" she asked.

"Yep," Kage answered, "He's being kept at another secret stable, not too far away. Rin and I can simply meet you at Xelua's place, if there's nothing else to discuss."

Aai gazed around at everyone, noting that Tagorious was looking Winter over. She was a beautiful woman. She moved a few steps forward, joining the group as they moved off.
(Um...I'm assuming Winter's going with them?)

Winter vaulted onto Tirria with fluid ease and rode at the head of the group, unconciously linking with Kage just enough to understand where they were going to collect his horse.
"So, what news since we parted? It's been what, over a month now?"

"How are you doing?" Rin asked. She was referring to the devestation Winter had had over Cre. The last time they had seen her she had been barely functioning from grief, and her younger brother Torrens had had to take her back home to the gypsy camp.
